Frans Van Assche , Ing
F. Van Assche holds a degree in Business Administration, Engineering and Management Informatics from the University of Leuven where he is currently employed with the responsibility of Secretary General for GLOBE, which is a worldwide network of repositories of learning resources. At this university, he is project responsible for the iTEC (Innovative Technologies for an Engaging Classroom) project. He is also in-house consultant at the European Schoolnet (EUN), a network of 31 European ministries of education. For the last fifteen years Frans Van Assche has been active in the field of ICT in education as a project manager, evaluator for and rapporteur to the European Commission and Strategy manager of the European Schoolnet, leading the standards and interoperability work. He was project manager for some high profile EU funded projects such as RUBRIC, Web for Schools (WfS), WfS-ESIS, the EUN multimedia and the MELT project. F. Van Assche is silver core member of the International Federation of Information Processing (IFIP) and former secretary of IFIP WG 8.1. He was vice-chair of the CEN/ISSS workshop on Learning Technologies; director of the European IMS Network, and associate professor at the European School of Economics EHSAL (HUB), Brussels, where he lectured for 21 years. Frans Van Assche held high offices at James Martin Associates (Vice president) and James Martin & Co. (Vice president Research & Development Europe, and Managing Director JMC Belgium).
